Makati Medical Center is PRC-Accredited Pharmacy Training CPD Provider

Writer: ahmad hatoumahmad hatoum

Makati Medical Center has achieved another milestone in continuing professional education with the accreditation of its Department of Pharmacy as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider in Pharmacy Training by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).  PRC awarded the accreditation to Makati Medical Center on December 12, 2016, which is valid until 2019. MakatiMed achieved the recognition through the efforts of the department’s Professional Development and Training Section, headed by Rachel Merci B. Mundo, RPh, and Department Manager Hazel Faye R. Docuyanan, RPh, MS. “This accreditation will formalize and give CPD credits to the in-house technical and skills training we give our pharmacists and students,” said Ms. Docuyanan. “Hence, our pharmacists will not have difficulty meeting the CPD credit requirements for their PRC renewal.” As stated in the “Revised Guidelines on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for all Registered and Licensed Professionals”, registered and licensed professionals should complete the required credit units every three years in renewing their license.  A licensed pharmacist is required to complete 45 CPD credit units every renewal. This is in line with Republic Act No. 10918 or the Philippine Pharmacy Act recently passed by the Philippine Congress which “recognizes the vital role of pharmacists in the delivery of quality healthcare services”. One of the objectives of the Act is the “development and enhancement of professional competence in pharmacists through continuing professional development, research, and other related activities”. “It is the mission of MakatiMed to provide its patients the best medical care they deserve, delivered by the most competent healthcare providers, which include the pharmacists and other professionals involved in handling medicines,” said Ms. Docuyanan. “The CPD programs we will be offering are structured to meet the mission and vision of the hospital, as well as address the evolving role of the pharmacists in the country.”
