Makati Medical Center, through the Department of Pathology and Laboratories, now offers two new test items: the Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Total (Roche Elecsys) and Anti-SARS CoV-2 IgG (Abbott Architect). The two (2) new tests are used for the semi-quantitative detection (with titer) of antibodies including igG to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Both use Electro-chemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) method to detect antibodies. Sensitivity and specificity is 100% if done at the right time. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Total detects all types of antibodies (IgM, IgG, IA). IgM is a marker for active infection while IgG is indicative of past infection. Studies have shown that for CoViD-19 infections, IgM appears at about the same time as IgG, thus the rationale for Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Total test.
